After an action-packed November, we will be slowing down a bit for the holidays, but there’s still a lot going on in December.

No Net Night - Tuesday December 2nd @ 18:30 - 23:00

It is time once again to unplug our Internet connection for the evening. But it is all not doom and gloom. There’s plenty of activities to do at Foulab and interesting people to do them with.

And as a bonus, we will be having a lil’ going away party for moti!

Mesh Night - Wednesday December 3rd @ 19:00 - 22:00

These nights are hosted each month on the third Wednesday of the month.

As usual, Tuesdays and Thursdays are Open Nights. These are a great time to visit the space for the first time. Sometimes events occur on these nights but we are still open for socializing and other activities.

Mondays are our Workshop Nights. Come make things or help improve our workshop area.

The monthly meeting and Fediverse night are on pause for the holidays but will resume in January.

Foulab Events - July 2025
by [der_moderne_man] @ 2025-06-28 00:00:05 +0000

July is a hot month and Foulab’s air conditioners will be working double time to support our richly diverse community. We also have some hot events planned.

No Net Night - Tuesday July 8 @ 18:30 - 23:00

Worried that wireless transmissions are influencing your thoughts?

Want to practice your conversation skills?

Tired of doomscrolling?

Wanna start a LAN party?

No Net Night returns in July, we will be turning off Internet access for the evening and transporting people back to a simpler time.

Junk Swap - Saturday July 12 @ 14:00 - 16:00

Foulab will be hosting our first junk swap.

The idea is simple: people will bring in something that is in working or repairable condition that they no longer want, and it will be placed into a common pile for others to claim. Anything remaining at the end will be taken to a local recycling service such as Recyborg.

Everybody is encouraged to participate. Swing by with something old, leave with something new (to you).

Project Night - Thursday July 17 @ 19:30 - 21:30

Project Night is upon us again. This is an opportunity for everybody to talk about, demonstrate, and celebrate the projects of people in our community.

Spectators are welcome, beginners are encouraged to present projects, and projects may be at any stage of development. Presentations may be as formal or informal as you’d like. We’re here to have fun and enjoy each other’s efforts.

Foulab Monthly Meeting - Saturday July 26th @ 13:00 - 15:00

Our monthly meetings are open to the public, it is where we discuss Foulab business and projects. One hour will be devoted to ordinary Foulab affairs.

The second half of the meeting is devoted to a General Assembly for our ongoing election of Foulab board officers. This time will give an opportunity for candidates to introduce themselves and their platforms. The voting will commence in August.

Foulab Events - June 2025
by [maru] @ 2025-05-28 00:00:05 +0000

Picture provided by maru

Another solstice graces the indomitable Foulab. As the summer days grow long, and the weather so beautiful, why not spend it inside the lab? With us? As always, all are welcome - no matter if it’s your first time or your fiftieth, you’ll be greeted warmly (and not just because it’s summer).

No Net Night - Tuesday June 3 @ 18:30 - 23:00

Go local or go home: we shut off the Internet access to the Lab for one night and see what happens. Work on stuff offline, talk to another human being (???), leave (or find) a deaddrop for someone else. Poke ports and find out: the router itself (and all other local amenities) will still be operational, so even LAN parties are in the cards…

Mesh Night - Wednesday June 4 @ 19:00 - 22:00

Curious about alternative network topologies? Don’t know what a network topology is, but ecstatic even just considering the idea of a different internet, made up of physical nodes throughout Montreal?

kryma hosts this edition of the (mostly) monthly night focussed on local, mesh, and other peer-to-peer networks. Come discuss, research, test, and build out peer-to-peer infrastructure from Foulab to the world (within reason).

Wiki Night - Tuesday June 10 @ 20:00 - 20:30

Fight entropy with your fellow Foulabbers as we write and prune and write and prune the lab wiki into shape. Some people call it lore. We call it an event.

Foulab Monthly Meeting - Tuesday June 17th @ 20:00 - 22:00

Prepare yourself for what some call “the Foulab meeting,” where once a month we discuss all matters pertinent to ongoing lab business and projects. Only together can we keep this train rolling: your input is welcome and encouraged.

Killed by Dice presents: Classic Traveller - Sunday June 22nd @ 16:00 - 19:00

We have an ongoing game of Classic Traveller that we will play on June 22nd. This is an early science-fiction role-playing game. It is a mix of high tech, low tech, space exploration, trade, action, and slice of life. We have room for a few more players.

contact david AT killedbydice.com if you are interested.

Hosted by der_moderne_man

Wearable Tech Afternoon - Saturday June 28 @ 15:00 - 20:00

Obsessed with corporeally-compatible hardware? Whether it’s flashing Gentoo Linux onto an arm-mounted iPod nano or assembling a whole new form of computing from spare parts, come join kryma and other Foulab members to talk, tinker, and build wearable technologies.

Anything goes: if you can wear it, it counts.

Killed by Dice presents: Fantasy For Real - Sunday June 29th @ 16:00 - 19:00

In June, we will playing a one-shot of Fantasy for Real. This is a whimsical fantasy adventure role-playing game where magic really matters. It was designed by Ron Edwards and published in 2023. Limited spots available.
